Enchong Dee voluntarily surrenders, posts bail for P1B cyber libel case

Enchong Dee’s camp belied reports that the actor was evading arrest over the P1 billion cyber libel complaint filed against him by Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights (DUMPER) party list representative Claudine Bautista-Lim.

A statement released by law firm Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon & San Jose on Tuesday said:

“Contrary to certain media reports, Enchong Dee has been attending to his professional and personal commitments in the past couple of days and has not made any attempt to evade arrest.

The statement furthered that Enchong posted bail after surrendering himself to the authorities.

“Moving forward, Enchong will take all the appropriate and necessary legal steps to defend himself against the pending lawsuit,” it added.

Bautista’s wedding to Jose French Lim last year at the Balesin island stirred controversy among netizens, including celebrities, for its alleged extravagance amid a pandemic.

Enchong, in a deleted tweet, said: “The money for commuters and drivers went to her wedding. Let’s not prolong this conversation and don’t say otherwise.”

The actor later apologized to Bautista for being “reckless in the tweet I posted and I take full responsibility for my lapse in judgement.”

Bautista, however, sought P500,000,000 in moral damages and another P500,000,000 in exemplary damages, for the actor’s “defamatory” and “malicious” post.
