Actress Nadia Montenegro urged the public to be extra vigilant against criminals after P130,000 was stolen from her mom inside a membership-only shopping store.
“I don’t hardly do this but this is very scary and very unacceptable,” said Nadia in a Facebook Live video on Wednesday as she vented her disappointment and shared details about the incident at the membership store in Novaliches.
According to the actress, seven unidentified people ran off with her mom’s wallet and withdrew all the money from her ATM and credit cards in only a matter of minutes.
“As soon as she found out that her wallet was missing, they reported it to the people here in (store). And in three minutes, nakalabas po yung pitong taong nagnakaw ng wallet niya.
“When we called the bank, we called up BDO, we called up the Bank of America, limas lahat po ng pera ng nanay ko,” shared Nadia.
Nadia then sought the help of the police to do an investigation since the membership store apparently “cannot give me the membership cards of (those) seven people that entered (store) and stole my mom’s wallet”.
“We’re not safe anymore. We’re not even safe in a membership club. I don’t know if this will help, but this is really scary,” said Nadia.
“My mom is crying her eyes out. She lost 1,700 dollars in one account, she lost 50,000 in her BDO, she lost another in all her credit cards that were stolen here inside (store).
“So, I’m waiting for the police. I will do kung ano talaga ang legal na dapat gawin. Because at this very moment, that seven people that stole my mom’s wallet are still out there celebrating after stealing P130,000 plus from her.”
Nadia later gave an update on the incident with a video of her at the police station, sharing that the authorities got a copy of the CCTV footage and have identified the names of two out of the seven suspects.
“We have identified two of the seven men. May pictures sila dito, mug shots. This is a big syndicate. This is a big modus,” revealed Nadia.
The actress went on to detail how the suspects pulled off the scheme against her mother, based on the CCTV footage.
“Maraming nagtatanong sa akin how they were able to withdraw all of my mom’s accounts in less than five minutes.
“When you watch the CCTV, you will see how fast po they work. Habang nandun pa sila nakakumpol sa nanay ko at nakuha yung wallet, nakalabas na yung dalawang lalake at nakapag-withdraw na dito sa Robinsons dito sa tabi ng (membership store).
“So, it’s a modus, it’s a syndicate. It’s a big one,” related Nadia.
In a Facebook post, Nadia shared a screenshot of the CCTV footage showing her mom being crowded by the supposed suspects while grocery shopping.
“God protect us. I’m after these people. I’m not after the money. I don’t want the money back. My mom’s safe, that’s fine. I’m after our safety,” said Nadia.
